Who we are and how we got started
Premier Santa Cruz Insulation Services is an insulation contractor in Santa Cruz. I started it in 2023 after years of painting houses and finding cold, drafty rooms that no coat of paint could fix, so I learned insulation on other crews first. We're licensed and fully insured, and we handle 16 kinds of insulation work, from attics and walls to crawl spaces and vapor barriers. You can read more about how we got started and how we work.

Insulation contractor services in Santa Cruz, CA
Premier Santa Cruz Insulation Services is an insulation contractor in Santa Cruz serving 12 cities, for houses that run hot upstairs, feel drafty or have cold floors. Price mostly turns on the size of the space, how much old material has to come out and how many gaps need sealing first, and the schedule turns on access and what we find once we're in there. The written estimate after my visit gives you your own number.

Spray foam insulation
We spray foam into rafters, wall cavities and over-garage floors, where it seals air and insulates at once, a good fit around attic ductwork.

Attic insulation
If it's hot upstairs or cold all winter, the attic's usually thin, so we seal gaps and bring coverage evenly out to the edges.

Blown-in insulation
Blown-in insulation is loose fill we blow through a hose to top up an existing attic or fill closed walls without tearing out drywall.

Home insulation
For homeowners who want the whole house looked at once, we check the attic, walls and crawl space and insulate them in the right order.

Insulation removal
Insulation that's soaked or fouled by rodents has to come out first, so we vacuum it out and clean up before new material goes in.

Crawl space insulation
Cold floors usually mean bare framing in the crawl space, so we fit insulation between the joists and hold it snug against the subfloor.

Wall insulation
We fill the empty walls of older homes through small holes we patch afterward, for rooms that feel chilly along the outside walls.

Air sealing services
We close the leaks drafty houses lose heat through, around window trim, outlets, plumbing and where the walls sit on the foundation, before insulation goes in.

Basement insulation
For houses with a basement or a lower floor set into a hillside, we insulate the foundation walls so the space downstairs feels warmer.

Closed-cell foam insulation
Closed-cell foam is a dense spray foam that blocks moisture, so we use it where dampness is a concern, like crawl space and basement walls.

Open-cell foam insulation
Open-cell foam is a softer, lighter spray foam that fills odd-shaped spaces and dulls sound, a good pick where moisture isn't a worry.

Commercial insulation
Property managers and business owners call us for offices, rentals and shops, and we plan the work around tenants and business hours.

Crawl space vapor barrier
We lay heavy plastic sheeting over the crawl space dirt and seal the seams, so ground moisture stays out of the framing and insulation above.

Vapor barrier installation
Before walls or ceilings close up in a remodel, we install the vapor barrier your plans call for, to keep indoor moisture away from the framing.

Attic air sealing
Attic air sealing closes the gaps around recessed lights, pipes, wires and the hatch before new insulation goes down, so warm air stops leaking up.

Retrofit insulation
If your older house was built with little or no insulation, we add it to the attic, walls and floors without gutting the rooms.
Why Santa Cruz homeowners call us
The owner at every estimate
I come out myself and look at your attic or crawl space with you, so you know what's going on before you decide anything.
Leaks and wiring sorted first
We deal with roof leaks and old wiring before anything new goes in, because insulation laid over a problem just hides it.
Inches measured before we quote
I check how many inches are already up there, so you're not paying to add insulation where you already have plenty.
Updates from start to finish
Running a small business taught me how much a returned call matters, so we keep you posted from the estimate through the last day.
Permits checked for your address
We check with the city or county office for your address, and if a permit's needed, we handle it and tell you up front.
Time for one more question
I'd rather talk a little longer than leave you guessing, and I'll say so when a cheaper fix makes more sense.

Your insulation questions answered
How much does attic insulation cost in Santa Cruz?
It depends mostly on the size of your attic, how many inches are already up there, whether old insulation has to come out and how much sealing the gaps need first. Foam costs more than loose fill, and tight access or a lot of cleanup adds time. I give you a written figure after I've looked, so you're comparing real numbers.
How much can a contractor ask for up front on a home insulation job in California?
Under state rules, a contractor's down payment on a home improvement job can't be more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. Any other payments have to be spelled out in the contract and match work already done or materials already delivered to your house.
How long does attic insulation take, and do we have to leave the house?
The time depends on the attic's size, whether old material comes out first and how much sealing it needs, and I talk it through with you when I come out. With blown-in work you can usually stay home. With spray foam you'll need to be out of the house for a while, and we'll tell you the re-entry time, when you, the kids and the pets can come back, before work starts.
Does an insulation contractor need a license in California?
Yes, the Contractors State License Board licenses anyone who alters a building in California, and a license is required when labor and materials come to $1,000 or more or the job uses other workers. Home improvement contractors have to be licensed before they even bid, and a project that needs a building permit needs a licensed contractor. We're licensed and fully insured, and you're welcome to ask about it when I come out.
Do you remove old insulation before adding new?
Only when it needs to go, such as when it's been soaked, is full of rodent droppings or is hiding a problem, because new material laid on top just keeps the problem in your attic. Clean, dry insulation can usually stay, and then we seal the gaps around lights, pipes and the hatch, keep the vents at the roof's edge clear and top it up evenly out to the edges.
Do you guarantee your insulation work?
Yes, every job comes with our promise of your satisfaction, guaranteed. If something about the finished work doesn't sit right with you, tell me, because that promise only means something if you speak up.
Is spray foam insulation better than blown-in for an attic?
Not usually, because sealing the gaps and topping up blown-in insulation costs less and works well in most attics. Spray foam costs more but seals air while it insulates, so it makes sense when your ductwork runs through the attic. I'll tell you which one fits your house, even when it's the cheaper one.
Will a remodel in Santa Cruz need insulation upgrades?
It can, because Santa Cruz has local energy rules that ask certain additions and alterations to single-family homes to add measures from a points list, and insulation and duct sealing are among the choices. Heat pumps and solar panels are on that list too, so insulation is one option, not a must. If you're planning a remodel, I can talk through how insulation fits in when I come out.
A look at insulation work
How a job with us goes
Call or send a message
Call (831) 201-6061 or fill out the form and tell us what's bothering you, whether it's a hot room upstairs, cold floors, a high power bill or a remodel coming up. We get back to you within one business day to set a time for me to come take a look.
I look and we talk it over
I come out myself and look at the attic, crawl space or walls with you, checking how many inches are already there, any leaks or old wiring and the gaps that need sealing. Then I follow up with a written estimate that's free and carries no obligation, so you can decide in your own time.
Our installers do the work
Our installers work in the order we agreed on, so bad material comes out and gaps get sealed before any new insulation goes in, and I check in on the job along the way. If we find something once the job is open, we talk it through with you before going further.
We walk the finished job together
Before we leave, I walk the finished job with you so you can see the coverage for yourself, out to the edges and around the vents, and we clean up after ourselves. It's also a good time to ask anything you're still wondering about your house.
